Terms of Use

The short version

Skein is free to download and use. Your notes are your own files and remain entirely yours. We provide the app as it is, we do our best to make it good, and we ask that you don’t redistribute or reverse engineer it.

Licence

TeZe Ltd grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Skein on Macs you own or control. The licence is free of charge and does not expire.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Skein, remove or alter any proprietary notices, or reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it.

Your content

Skein stores your notes as ordinary Markdown files in a folder you choose on your Mac. You own those files. We claim no rights over them, we do not have access to them, and nothing in these terms gives us any licence to them.

Because Skein writes to your files directly, you are responsible for backing them up. We strongly recommend keeping a backup (Time Machine, a cloud folder, or version control) as you would for any other important documents.

No warranty

Skein is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that it will meet your requirements.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TeZe Ltd will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of Skein.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

Updates and availability

We may update Skein from time to time to fix problems or add features. We may also stop distributing or supporting the app. If we do, any copy you have already installed will continue to work, and your notes will remain readable in any Markdown editor, because they are just files.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
